NEMIC, Innovate Newport Shine Spotlight on RI’s MedTech Industry

NEMIC last week had a great time on Aquidneck Island, partnering with Innovate Newport to highlight Rhode Island’s growing MedTech ecosystem.

The MedTech Industry Spotlight featured a panel discussion moderated by NEMIC Co-Founder and Managing Partner Aidan Petrie. The panel included Rhode Island Life Sciences Hub Board Chair Neil Steinberg, along with three local companies: Flourish Care with CEO Melissa Bowley, Iantrek with COO David Robson, and Iris with Founder & Chairman Peter Nuytkens. The March 14 event at Innovate Newport’s Broadway headquarters was part of its Industry Spotlight Series, which showcases the diverse industrial landscape here in Rhode Island across a wide variety of sectors, including Defense, Food & Beverage Industry, and Material Science.

Panel topics included Rhode Island's growing MedTech industry, the state's recent $45 million commitment to build infrastructure supporting life science innovation, and the insight and experience through the lens of two local companies and their leaders. The event also featured 11 startups who showcased their innovations, devices, services, and designs.

The event highlighted the breadth and diversity of medical device and health technology companies located in Rhode Island. NEMIC was tasked with tapping into our deep network of industry professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors to assemble a compelling, comprehensive group for the event.

“Events like these are so important for our community,” said NEMIC Executive Director Maey Petrie. “Not only do they demonstrate Rhode Island’s commitment to growing Life Sciences, but they also highlight our state’s deep health technology ecosystem and the infrastructure we have to support its growth.”

The event was a resounding success, fostering collaboration, inspiring creativity, and fueling the spirit of innovation within the Newport community and beyond. As they departed, attendees left with anticipation of what’s to come through the budding RI Life Sciences Hub, valuable connections, and a renewed sense of inspiration for the growth that lies ahead in Rhode Island.
