Bryant University and New England Medical Innovation Center announce partnership

SMITHFIELD, RI –  Bryant University and the New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC) recently announced a partnership that will focus on providing education, global acceleration, and commercialization support specialized for the Medical Technology Industry.  NEMIC, founded in 2017 and located in Providence, helps Med Tech startups with obtaining funding and overall assists companies though all stages on their path to commercialization and beyond. Bryant University is a leader in the healthcare field with its School of Health Sciences, which features a fully-accredited Physician Assistant program, as well as, its Innovative Healthcare Leadership Certificate Program.

The unique collaboration between NEMIC and Bryant University will combine the expertise of healthcare, education, and business innovators. Bryant’s experienced faculty, students, and international business professionals will team up with NEMIC clients, applying design thinking processes, strategic analysis, and market research to create customized market strategies for Med Tech companies. The partnership will assist NEMIC clients with the commercialization process in the field of healthcare devices and digital product design.

“Bryant University recognized the importance of being a partner in the healthcare field when we opened the School of Health Sciences in 2015,” said Glenn Sulmasy, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Director of Bryant University.  “Forming a partnership between our John H. Chafee Center for International Business and NEMIC is a natural fit for Bryant as we continue to leverage the University’s core strengths in business, liberal arts, analytics and data science to assist companies with bringing their products to market.”

The partnership addresses a growing need in Rhode Island, where the health and life sciences industry concentration is 31% higher than the national average. The State has shown a significant commitment in this area, investing $26 million over the last two years in the life sciences industry and providing funding to 34 research and development partnerships between companies and universities.1

NEMIC provides individualized support to start-up companies with the goal of bringing their product to market and facilitating economic growth in Rhode Island. Bryant’s approach to customized market research, data analytics and innovation will provide companies with the business acumen they need to do this successfully.
