Global Connector, MIT Research Scientist, Healthcare Designer, + NEMIC Senior Advisor. Welcome Nevan Hanumara, PhD to the NEMIC Team

NEMIC’s newest Senior Advisor, Nevan Hanumara, PhD is a research scientist at MIT Mechanical Engineering’s Precision Engineering Research Group where his research and teaching focuses on applied technology in healthcare settings, emerging markets and anytime people and machines interact. He co-instructs MIT’s Medical Device Design course, which fosters clinical engineering collaborations to prototype new clinical technologies.

Dr. Hanumara works internationally and supports entrepreneurship as a mechanism for technology commercialization. He is the CSO of Raydiant Oximetry, Inc., which is developing a non-invasive fetal oxygen monitor for use during labor and delivery, and an advisor to multiple health focused technology startups. He also co-teaches design thinking workshops that help companies strengthen their innovation cultures.

Dr. Hanumara’s focus on innovation in the medical device space and deep experience translating clinical needs to a technology and business case is extremely beneficial in supporting Med Tech innovators and entrepreneurs worldwide. As an Advisor, Dr. Hanumara's global reach will benefit national and international entrepreneurs by connecting them to NEMIC for support and success of their businesses. Dr. Hanumara is a Rhode Island native and holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and BA in French from the University of Rhode Island’s International Engineering Program and an MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.


Dr. Hanumara’s focus on innovation in the medical device space and translating a clinical need to a technology to a business case is extremely beneficial to supporting Med Tech innovators and entrepreneurs by connecting them with NEMIC for support.
